π A letter from Rachel
Hello, my name is Rachel.
I am a 20-year-old girl currently studying in Grade 11. I am deeply grateful to the AGHF family for helping me continue my education and for providing eye treatment.
I joined AGHF in 2023 as a refugee. I am supported only by my father because my mother and all my brothers died in the Gatumba Massacre in Burundi, when we were living in a refugee camp. Our refugee camp was attacked and with many others in the camp, they were torched to death. We later came to Kenya to escape the conflicts. When we arrived, studying was difficult for me because my father had no means to support my education. He was unemployed and also suffers from diabetes. This made it very hard for me to succeed in school, and I was often sent home for not having paid my school fees.
Now, things have changed because of AGHF. I am studying well and performing better. I have all the school supplies I need, and I no longer worry about being sent away from school. This gives me peace of mind and hope for the future. I always thank God for giving us Dr. Grace Faraja, who had the idea to help girls.
Without AGHF, my future would be uncertain. But now, I have big dreams. I want to become one of the greatest women in the world. Through mentorship, I am gaining confidence and focus to achieve my goals. I know I am in good hands and well supported.
My father is now at peace, knowing that I no longer struggle with school fees. This has made his life better because he used to be very stressed, fearing I would be expelled from school. AGHF also healed my eyes. I am very thankful because I used to have trouble seeing the blackboard, which affected my performance. Now that my eyes are healed, I can see clearly, and I am able to study well.
I am at peace because of AGHF.
Thank you very much. I promise to keep working hard in my studies so that I can achieve great results.
