AGHF Builds a Library!
AGHF Library ribbon cutting ceremony, Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at the AGHF offices in Nairobi
BIG NEWS!! Are you ready? 🥁🥁🥁Drum roll please …
We are overjoyed to announce the opening of the first AGHF Library Space for orphan and refugee girls in Africa!
We are amazed and grateful to announce - that this June - we were able to build a library space in our AGHF Kenya offices! AGHF girls now have free access to a library full of wonderful books!
Live from Kenya: 🎉AGHF board members and staff from the US traveled to Kenya determined to create a way for the AGHF girls to discover reading - beyond academic books and open a whole new world to our girls.
Did You Know?
Most school libraries in Nairobi only stock textbooks. Ours is different. It's a place to dream, explore, and fall in love with reading beyond the classroom. 💖
Phase 1 - Funding the Library
Libraries are not built on dreams alone. The truth? We needed a team. Without the selfless donations we received, this library would still be in the dream phase - with no results.
We deeply appreciate those who saw the vision of what books can do - and then acted on that understanding. Because education isn't just about passing exams. It's about opening minds to much, much more.
🫱🏾🫲🏽 Together - you have blessed generations of orphaned and refugee girls in Africa! Your gift will literally never stop giving. Thank you!
Phase 2 - Building the Bookcases
Yes, the backbone of every library, no matter the size, is a bookcase. So obviously phase 2 was to design and order big, beautiful bookcases - tall & strong - ready to carry 1000 books! Thank you to Sam Lee, Board Member, who designed and gave us the dimensions for the bookcases to fit our library space.
These bookcases were custom-built and fit perfectly into our library! Thank you to the donor who funded this phase anonymously!
Our AGHF library backbone is our bookcases - ready to last through the generations of girls exploring and choosing which book will be their next adventure.
Phase 3 - Books. Building a wishlist and purchasing
The fun part.😄We gathered lists of favorite books from friends of all ages. Girls around the world helped us build a list of well-loved books. From this list, we have built the beginnings of our AGHF library. We were then able to purchase hundreds of books - filling over half of the bookcases! Thank you to every teen, pre-teen, and adult who added to our library wish list! (Yes, we are still building on that list!)
Phase 4 - Library Kick-off and Reading Program
🎈Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the creation of the amazing new AGHF library!
We first heard from our founder Dr. Grace Faraja, encouraging the girls to find joy in reading. Followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. With a lot of balloons popped:).
The girls received reading program cards and had a chance to mingle and win some prizes:). Best of all … every girl was able to browse and check out a book to take home!🎉✨
We are excited about this opportunity to spread the love of reading!
💞Thank you to Grace, who stepped forward during the ceremony and also encouraged her friends by sharing her enthusiasm and expressing what a blessing it is to now have access to books - for free!
“ This library will continue blessing generations of young girls who are fighting to defy poverty, trauma, and displacement. Your gift is a light that will only burn brighter with time. ”
